Bootcamp 2021

Scaling up after August 2021

The story of the 2021 cohort: 75 participants, remote-first, supported by Scrimba, launched in the wake of the August 2021 events in Afghanistan.

A CodeWeekend Coding Bootcamp session: an instructor leans in to help a student while code is projected on the wall

In 2019, we started the CodeWeekend Web Developer Coding Bootcamp and made it our main focus — with limited resources, a lot of demand, and completely free of charge.

The pilot program was a smashing success: 12 of its 20 participants graduated.

You can find their profiles, along with some case studies, on our Stories page.

After August 2021

As tragic events unfolded in Afghanistan, we got more ambitious about continuing and scaling our coding Bootcamp program.

Remote, full-time, and open to Afghan youth inside and outside Afghanistan.

We expanded the Bootcamp into a remote, full-time offering. It lasts six months and includes a lifetime of coaching and mentoring for our graduates.

As part of our offering, we are continuously seeking partnerships with companies and organizations abroad to offer internships and job opportunities for our graduates.

The October 2021 cohort

We started strong, with participants aiming to sharpen their skills and advance their coding career journey.

Learning partner Scrimba

We are able to accommodate this many participants thanks to great support from Scrimba. Our participants, all from Afghanistan, use the Scrimba platform to learn to code and follow its courses, guidelines, and career paths.

Preparing for new and better jobs around the world.

In their own words

Two graduates of the 2021–2022 Bootcamp on what the program changed for them.

CodeWeekend is a wonderful program for any Computer Science student or graduate to go through! I graduated from the program and now I have a job!

I learnt things that I was not able to learn in my 4 years of Computer Science class in one of the private universities. I can’t recommend it enough!
