Year in review · 2022

One of our most productive years since 2014

A year in review for 2022 — our third bootcamp cohort, partnerships with Hackajob and Scrimba, and what's ahead in 2023.

A year passed, and it is time to review what we have done at CodeWeekend. Ours is a positive conclusion: 2022 was one of our most productive years since 2014.

We ran the third cohort of our coding Bootcamp, worked with an incredible number of instructors and mentors, and were supported by two major partners: Hackajob and Scrimba.

Here is what the year looked like, and what we are planning for 2023.

The third cohort From application to the Bootcamp

A full-stack coding Bootcamp, graduating in February 2023.

  2. 02 · In the Bootcamp30students in the program, on track to graduate as full-stack developers
  3. 03 · Scholarships20female students on scholarships from Hackajob

The third cohort

We organized the third cohort of our coding Bootcamp program, and received over 250 applications.

It is not a course. It is a Bootcamp.

That is what we tell our students. By the nature of how we designed the program, not everyone gets in, and not everyone graduates.

The program now runs strongly with 30 students — for sure the best ones out there. By February 2023 they will graduate as full-stack developers, and some have already found jobs and been hired.

Run by instructors and mentors

CodeWeekend is run by instructors and mentors. This year we worked with an incredible number of them, and they brought a lot of value to our students and to the wider CodeWeekend community.

Their dedication — many of them volunteers contributing hours alongside full-time jobs — is what makes the program work.

Partners who made the year

We couldn’t have had a wonderful year without the support of our partners.

Major supporter Hackajob

Hackajob’s support has been phenomenal in helping us achieve our goals and run our programs. They provided scholarships for 20 female students to take part in our Coding Bootcamp.

Their team also organized a fundraiser and ran a half-marathon to support the education of developers in Afghanistan.

Learning partner Scrimba

  • 1 yearof Scrimba’s premium courses and content

Generous support that had a lot of impact, helping our students learn a wide range of skills — especially frontend technologies.

What’s ahead in 2023

We are planning to hire full-time employees working in many areas of CodeWeekend. After more than eight years of operation, we think we are ready for that.

As our third cohort finishes, we will start the fourth cohort of the CodeWeekend Bootcamp. With full-time staff looking after many parts of our delivery and the program, we will be in a much better position to scale our work.

With thanks

To our students, instructors, mentors, and partners: thank you for a year we are proud of.

We are especially grateful to Hackajob, for scholarships for 20 female students and a half-marathon run for developers in Afghanistan, and to Scrimba, for a year of premium courses for 100 of our students.

We have done so much in 2022, and it was certainly one of our most productive years since 2014. On to the fourth cohort.
